Event definitions

Prev Next

Event definitions are used to interpret incoming asset data and determine when that data should be treated as an event. By defining thresholds and levels, you can translate raw sensor or data source values into meaningful states such as Normal, Warning, Error, or Critical Error. These events form the basis for triggering notifications.

Event definitions are created at asset type level. This allows the same event logic to be reused across all assets of that type. If needed, thresholds can also be adjusted for a specific asset.

Create an event definition

Click Assets in the navigation menu.
Open the Types tab.
Find the asset type for which you want to create an event definition and click on it.
Open the Event Definitions tab.
Click the plus button to create a new event definition.
If no event definitions exist yet for this asset type, click Add Event Definition instead.

Attention!

If you use an asset type that has been shared with you by another company, you cannot create event definitions for that asset type.

The event definition has now been created, but no thresholds have been configured yet.

Configure thresholds and levels

Once the event definition has been created, you can define how incoming values should be interpreted.

Open the event definition.
Click Edit.
Click Add threshold to add the first rule.

You can now configure the event definition as needed.

  1. Click the Plus icon to add additional levels.

  2. Set the threshold between two levels.

  3. Choose the intensity for each level: Normal, Warning, Error, or Critical Error.

  4. Click the drop icon to choose the color for each level.

  5. If needed, click the arrow to reverse the order of the values.

  6. Enter a short message. This message is shown on the dashboard.

  7. Enter a full message. This message is sent by email or SMS.

Click Save all tabs.

Edit an event definition

If an event definition already exists, you can update it at any time. For example, you can change threshold values, level intensities, colors, messages, or the name of the event definition.

Attention!

If you use an asset type that has been shared with you by another company, you cannot edit its event definitions.

Click Assets in the navigation menu.
Open the Types tab.
Find the asset type for which you want to edit an event definition and click on it.
Open the Event Definitions tab.
Find the event definition you want to edit and click on it.
Click Edit.

Editing an event definition is done in the same way as configuring it after creation.

Adjust the thresholds, levels, messages, colors, or name as needed.
Click Save all tabs.

Attention!

If you change an event definition at asset type level, the changes apply to all assets of that type. If the asset type is shared with another company, the changes also apply there.

Edit an event definition for a specific asset

If you want to make an exception for one asset, you can adjust the event definition at asset level. This only affects that specific asset.

Attention!

At asset level, you can only adjust the thresholds. If you want to change other settings, such as the name, levels, or intensity, this must be done at asset type level.

Click Assets in the navigation menu.
Find the asset for which you want to adjust an event definition and click on it.
Open the Event Definitions tab.
Find the event definition you want to edit and click on it.

Hint!

If the asset uses the default event definition from the asset type, the event definition is marked as Default. If the thresholds have been changed for that specific asset, it is marked as Overridden.

Click Edit.
Adjust the threshold values as needed.
Click Save.

Temporarily disable an event definition

If you no longer want notifications to be triggered by a specific event definition for a period of time, you can temporarily deactivate it.

Attention!

If you are using an asset type that has been shared with you by another company, you cannot deactivate its event definitions. If the asset type is shared with another company, deactivating the event definition also affects that company.

Click Assets in the navigation menu.
Open the Types tab.
Find the asset type for which you want to disable an event definition and click on it.
Open the Event Definitions tab.
Find the event definition you want to disable and click on it.
Click Edit.

Remove an event definition

If an event definition no longer applies to an asset type, you can remove it at any time.

If you use an asset type that has been shared with you by another company, you cannot delete its event definitions.

Click Assets in the navigation menu.
Open the Types tab.
Find the asset type for which you want to remove an event definition and click on it.
