Setting up push notifications
Push notifications allow you to receive important Calculus notifications directly on your smartphone or tablet. This helps you stay informed, even when you are not actively working in the Calculus platform.
To receive push notifications, you need to install the Calculus mobile app, allow notifications on your device and make sure that your notification settings in the platform are configured correctly.
When to use push notifications
Push notifications are useful when you want to be informed about important events in a timely manner, such as warnings, errors or critical situations related to your assets.
Instead of having to check the platform manually, notifications can be sent directly to your mobile device.
Requirements
Before you can receive push notifications, make sure that:
The Calculus field tool app is installed on your smartphone or tablet.
You are logged in to the app with your Calculus user account.
Notifications are allowed for the app on your device.
A notification preset is configured with Calculus app as one of the notification channels.
The notification preset is linked to a notification role.
The notification role is assigned to the correct user and assets.
If one of these steps is missing, push notifications may not be sent to your device.
For more information about notifications, see the following guide: Notifications overview.
Step 1: Install the Calculus field tool app
First, install the Calculus field tool app on your smartphone or tablet.
You can download the app from the app store on your device.
Search for: Calculus field tool
Once the app has been installed, open it and sign in with your Calculus user account.

Hint!
If you already had the app installed before push notifications were available, it is recommended to remove the app and install it again. This helps make sure that the latest version of the app is used and that your device can be registered correctly for push notifications.
Step 2: Allow notifications on your device
After signing in to the app, your device may ask whether Calculus is allowed to send you notifications.
Choose Allow.
This permission is required. If notifications are not allowed on your device, Calculus cannot send push notifications to your smartphone or tablet.
If you accidentally choose not to allow notifications, you can usually change this later in your device settings. Open the notification settings for the Calculus field tool app and allow notifications there.

Step 3: Device registration
When you sign in to the Calculus field tool app and allow notifications, your device is automatically registered in the Calculus platform.
This registration allows the platform to know which device should receive push notifications for your user account.
A user can have multiple registered devices. For example, you can receive push notifications on both a smartphone and a tablet, as long as both devices are registered.
Step 4: Check registered devices
You can check which devices are registered for push notifications from the user settings in the Calculus platform.
To do this:
Open the Calculus platform.
Go to Users in the left menu.
Open your user account.
Go to the Device registrations tab.
In this tab, you can see the devices that are registered for push notifications.
For each registered device, you can see information such as:
The platform, for example Android or iOS.
The device token.
The registration date and time.
The device token is a cryptographic identifier used by the platform to send notifications to the correct device. You normally do not need to use or change this yourself.

Step 5: Send a test notification
The Device registrations tab also allows you to send a test notification.
Use the Send Test Notification button to check whether your device can receive push notifications.
If the test notification arrives on your device, the device registration is working correctly.
In case the notification did not arrive, check the following:
The Calculus field tool app is still installed on your device.
You are logged in to the app with the correct user account.
Notifications are allowed for the app in your device settings.
Your device has an internet connection.
Battery saving settings are not blocking notifications for the app.
If needed, remove the app, install it again and sign in once more.
Step 6: Add Calculus app to a notification preset
Registering your device is not enough by itself. The platform also needs to know that notifications should be sent through the Calculus app. This is configured in a notification preset.
When creating or editing a notification preset, select Calculus app as one of the notification media.
This means that notifications using this preset can be sent as push notifications to registered devices.
You can combine Calculus app notifications with other media, such as email or SMS, depending on how your organization wants to receive notifications.
For more information about notification presets, see the following guide: notification presets.
Step 7: Link the preset to a notification role
After the notification preset has been configured, it must be added to a notification role.
A notification role determines which notification presets are used for a user or group of users.
Make sure that the notification role contains the preset in which Calculus app is selected as a notification medium.
If the preset is not linked to a notification role, users will not receive push notifications through that preset.
For more information about notification roles, see the following guide: notification roles.
Step 8: Assign the notification role to the correct user and assets
The final step is to make sure that the notification role is assigned correctly.
The notification role must be linked to the user who should receive the notifications. It must also be linked to the relevant assets.
This determines which user receives notifications for which assets.
If a user does not receive push notifications, check whether:
The correct notification role is assigned to the user.
The notification role is linked to the correct assets.
The notification preset includes Calculus app as a notification medium.
The event matches the settings of the notification preset.
For more information about assigning notifications, see the following guide: assigning notifications.
Removing a registered device
A registered device can be removed from the Device registrations tab.
This can be useful when:
A device is no longer used.
A user has a new smartphone or tablet.
Notifications should no longer be sent to a specific device.
After a device registration is removed, that device will no longer receive push notifications for that user account.
If the user wants to receive push notifications again on that device, they need to sign in to the Calculus field tool app again and allow notifications.

Troubleshooting
I do not receive push notifications
Check the following:
Is the Calculus field tool app installed?
Are you logged in with the correct user account?
Did you allow notifications for the app?
Is your device visible under Device registrations?
Does the test notification arrive?
Does the notification preset include Calculus app?
Is the preset linked to the correct notification role?
Is the notification role linked to the correct user and assets?
My device is not listed under Device registrations
If your device is not listed, it has not been registered correctly.
Try the following:
Remove the Calculus field tool app from your device.
Install the app again.
Sign in with your Calculus user account.
Allow notifications when your device asks for permission.
Check the Device registrations tab again.
The test notification works, but normal notifications do not arrive
If the test notification works, the device registration is working correctly.
In that case, check the notification configuration in the platform:
Make sure the notification preset includes Calculus app.
Make sure the preset is linked to a notification role.
Make sure the notification role is linked to the correct user and assets.
Make sure the event actually matches the conditions of the notification preset.
I receive notifications on one device, but not on another
Each device must be registered separately.
Install the Calculus field tool app on the other device, sign in with the same user account and allow notifications.
After that, check whether the device appears under Device registrations.
