Basic guide to installing, checking, and monitoring Gateways
Quickstart
Log in with your Portal account and select the correct company.
Open “Installations” to start or check an installation.
Always verify the serial number on the physical gateway.
Create a ticket if a required check continues to fail.
In this guide, you will learn:
how to log in and select the correct company
how to start a new installation and complete the steps
how to check an existing installation or reinstall it
how to create and track a support ticket
What you need before you begin
An active Portal account.
Access to the correct company.
The required permissions for gateway and asset management.
The gateway’s serial number and installation details.
Important!
The available installation flows depend on the gateway and asset types your company has access to. If no flow is available, a Portal administrator must first grant this access.
Sign in and select the correct company
1. Open the Configurator
Open the web page you received from Calculus.
2. Sign in
Use the email address and password for your Portal account.
3. Choose the company
At the top of the page, select the company you want to work for. Installations and flows are always displayed within this company.
Installation overview
On the Installations page, you’ll see the most recent installation for each gateway. For installations with a large number of entries, a loading indicator will appear first; you can still use the page while it loads. Older installations for the same gateway are retained in the gateway history on the details page.

Common statuses
In progress
The installation has started and can be resumed later.Completed
The installation process is complete.Failed
At least one check has failed and requires attention.Ticket created
A support ticket has been linked to the installation.Imported
The installation already existed in Portal and has been imported into the Configurator.
Performing a new installation
Click “New installation.” The Configurator displays only the combinations that are permitted for the selected company. The exact steps may vary depending on the gateway type, controller, and communication protocol.
1. Choose the type of installation
Select the correct machine or asset type.
2. Choose the gateway
Select the gateway type that will be physically installed.
3. Enter the asset information
Enter a recognizable asset name and the gateway's serial number.
4. Select a controller and protocol
Select the connected controller and, for example, Modbus TCP or Modbus RTU.
5. Follow the installation instructions
Complete the cabling, networking, and configuration steps in the order specified.
6. Perform the checks
The Configurator checks, among other things, registration, accessibility, location, communication, assets, and integration.
7. Complete the installation
Check the result. If a required check fails, the installation status will be set to “Failed.”
During installation
You can go back to a previous step without restarting the entire installation process.
Your progress is linked to your account and company, so you can resume later.
Some steps require a photo, measurement, or confirmation before you can continue.
Use “Skip” only when the step explicitly allows it and the situation warrants it.
Check the existing installation
Open the installation and select “Test installation.” This check reads the current status. Nothing is recorded, created, or modified during the individual checks. However, when you complete the check, the result is saved with the installation.
“Gateway registered” checks whether the gateway is recognized in Portal.
“Gateway online” and “Gateway signal” check accessibility and signal quality.
“GPS position” displays the last reported location.
RS485 communication or a similar communication check verifies the connection to the device.
Asset created and Asset linked verify whether an asset exists and is linked to this gateway.
Result: If a required check fails, the installation is assigned the status “Failed.” Open the failed check to view the recommended action, try again, or create a support ticket.
Reinstalling a gateway
Open the details page for the existing installation and select “Reinstall gateway.” This action is only available if your company currently has access to at least one installation flow and you have the required permissions.
The new installation starts over from the hardware selection step.
You may select a different gateway type or another available flow.
The previous installation remains visible in the gateway’s history within the same company.
Information about installations at other companies is not displayed.
If the gateway is still linked to another company, it must first be unlinked from that company.
Support and tickets
Create a ticket if a check keeps failing or if you cannot safely continue with the installation. Briefly describe what you checked and attach any requested photos.
1. Open the installation or Tickets
Select the installation to which the question relates, if applicable.
2. Describe the problem
Please provide the serial number, what you expected to happen, and which test failed.
3. Add evidence
Upload clear photos when the workflow or error message asks you to.
4. Submit and follow up
Replies and status updates are tracked under the same ticket.
Applicant's Name: The ticket is created using the name and email address of the user logged into the Configurator. This allows the ticket and any responses to be linked to the correct person.
What you should include in a ticket
Company and installation location.
Gateway serial number and selected gateway type.
Name of the asset or machine.
The exact failed check and the error message displayed.
What steps you have already tried again.
Quick help for common situations
I can't log in
Check your Portal account and internet connection. If the problem persists, contact your administrator.
I don't see any installation flows
Check that the correct company is selected. A Portal administrator must grant access to both the gateway type and the asset type.
I cannot select “Reinstall”
Your company does not have current flow access, or your account lacks a required permission.
The gateway belongs to another company
First, deregister the gateway from that company. For privacy reasons, the Configurator does not display details of that other company.
A check remains “Pending”
The gateway may not have reported the necessary data yet. Wait a short while and run the check again.
A check has failed
Open the check, follow the recommended action, and try again. Create a ticket if the error persists.
The overview shows only one installation
The overview intentionally displays the most recent installation per gateway. Open the details page to view the full history within your company.
