Project groups are used to organize assets that belong together within a project. You can group assets based on their function, location, installation, or any other shared characteristic. For example, you can create a project group for all generators on a construction site or group different asset types that belong to the same building or area.
They make it easier to manage and visualize related assets as one logical group. Project groups can also have their own settings, such as dashboards, asset indicators, and group-specific asset names.
Project groups are not limited to a fixed set of assets. You can manage their contents over time as assets are added, removed, or temporarily inactive. This allows the project group to reflect how assets are actually used throughout the lifetime of a project, while keeping their history and project-specific configuration available.
Create a project group
Click Assets in the navigation menu.
Then click Add and choose Add Asset Group.

A panel will appear where you can fill in the basic details of the project group:
Name
The name of the project group.Type
The type of assets that you want to put in the project group.Color
A color for this project group that will be shown on the home dashboard.
You can set the color of the asset indicator(s) using the drop icon in the Color field.

In the Asset Indicators section, you can choose to display assets on a map by activating the Show Indicators on Map toggle. This indicator is a colored dot.
Save the settings.
Customize a project group
Click Assets in the navigation menu and open the Project Groups tab.

Select the project group. A panel opens where you can customize the name, color, and how asset indicators are displayed.
Please note that the asset type cannot be changed.

Setting a default dashboard
You can set the default dashboards for a project group in the Visualization tab.

Turning on the switch will use the default detail and overview dashboards.
If you turn off the switches, you can choose which dashboard is used for the detail and overview dashboards.
Add, remove, or manage assets
Open the Assets tab of the project group to view and manage its assets.
The table contains the following information:
Asset Name
The original name of the asset.Asset Name in Project
The name used for the asset within the current project.Pencil icon
Edit the Asset Name in Project.Active in group
Shows whether and when the asset is active in the project.Advanced Settings icon
The icon with three horizontal lines and a pencil opens the advanced settings for the asset. Here you can configure the project-group-specific asset name, detail dashboard, and activity periods.Arrow icon
Opens the asset page.Plus icon
Adds an asset to the current project group. You can use the search field to find a specific asset.

Asset activity statuses
The Active in group column shows the current status of each asset:
Always active
No activity periods are configured. The asset is always active in the project.Active
The asset is currently within an activity period.Inactive
The most recent activity period has ended. If another period is scheduled, the portal also shows when the asset will become active again.Scheduled
The first activity period starts in the future. Not in group
The asset belongs to the project but is not part of the project group you are currently viewing. In N other groups shows how many other project groups contain the asset. Not in project
The asset is not currently part of any group in the project.
An asset without configured activity periods is always active in the project.
Important!
Activity periods apply to the entire project, not only to the project group in which you configure them.
If the same asset belongs to multiple project groups within the project, its activity periods apply to all of those groups.
Update multiple assets
You can update the membership or activity status of multiple assets at once.
Open the Assets tab.
Select one or more assets using the checkboxes. You can also select assets that are currently Not in project.
Click Update now.
Choose one of the available actions:
Start activity now
Makes the selected assets active from the current time. Assets that are not currently part of the project are added to the project.Stop now
Ends the current activity period. Future scheduled periods remain unchanged.Add for the full range
Removes all configured activity periods and makes the selected assets always active. Assets that are not currently part of the project are added to the project.Remove from project
Completely removes the selected assets from the project and from all project groups within that project.
Click Apply.

Attention!
Remove from project is a project-wide action. The asset is also removed from every other project group in the same project.
Historical measurement data is retained, but the project-specific name, dashboard selection, group memberships, and configured activity periods are not automatically restored if the asset is added to the project again later.
Assets that belong to a group with Auto Include All enabled cannot be removed from the project while that group setting requires them to remain included.
When performing a bulk action, the complete removal action is blocked if one or more selected assets cannot be removed. The portal indicates which assets and groups are preventing the removal.
Deselect those assets or deliberately change the relevant group setting before trying again.
The Options button allows you to delete the project group.
Determine when an asset is active in a project
Some assets are only temporarily part of a project.
For example, a generator may remain at a construction site for several weeks, return to the depot, and later be deployed to the same project again.
Activity periods determine from and until when the asset's data is available within the project.
The asset remains part of the project while it is inactive. This means its history and project configuration are retained when the asset is temporarily not in use.
Important
Activity periods apply to the entire project, not only to the project group in which they are configured.
If the same asset appears in multiple project groups within the project, the periods are applied everywhere.
What happens inside and outside an activity period?
During an activity period, the asset works within the project as usual.
Outside an activity period:
new measurements are not shown in dashboards, downloads, or project-specific integrations;
the last known value remains frozen at the value recorded at the end of the most recent active period;
the live location and map values are no longer updated;
no new notifications or reminders are sent for the asset.
An asset without configured activity periods is always active in the project.
Existing assets therefore continue to work as before until you configure an activity period yourself.
Open the activity period settings
Select the correct project using the folder icon in the top-left corner.
Go to Assets in the navigation menu.
Open the Project Groups tab.
Open the project group that contains the asset.
Open the Assets tab.
Click the Advanced Settings icon for the required asset.
The Project Group Asset Advanced Settings panel opens.
Under Active in project, you can see the current status and a timeline. The colored sections of the timeline represent active periods. Grey sections indicate periods during which the asset is inactive and its project data is frozen.
The Now marker indicates the current time.

Start an asset immediately
Use this option when an inactive or scheduled asset needs to become active immediately.
Open the asset's Advanced Settings.
Select Start activity now.
Click Save.
If a future period is already scheduled, that period becomes active immediately while retaining its planned end time.
If no future period exists, a new period starts without an end time.
Stop an active asset immediately
Open the asset's Advanced Settings.
Choose one of the following options:
End activity now, keep future periods
Ends the current period immediately. Future scheduled periods remain and will start as planned. This is usually the recommended option.End activity now, clear future periods
Ends the current period immediately and removes all future scheduled periods. The asset will not automatically become active again later.
Click Save.
The asset remains in the project. Its measurement history and project configuration are retained, but new project data and notifications stop from the end of the activity period.
Schedule or edit individual activity periods
Use the advanced view when you want to configure exact start and end times or when an asset needs multiple active periods.
Open the asset's Advanced Settings.
Click Advanced settings — edit individual periods.
Click Add period or Add first period.
Configure the start and end of the period:
Enable Use start date to select an exact start date and time.
Disable Use start date to use Since the beginning.
Enable Use end date to select an exact end date and time.
Disable Use end date to use Ongoing.
If necessary, add additional periods using Add period.
Delete an unnecessary period using the trash icon.
Click Save.
The entered date and time follow the timezone of your browser.

Rules for valid activity periods
Keep the following rules in mind when configuring periods:
the end time must be later than the start time;
periods cannot overlap;
consecutive periods are allowed: a period may start at exactly the same time as the previous period ends;
only one period can use Since the beginning;
only one period can use Ongoing.
If a combination is invalid, an error is shown for the affected period and the changes cannot be saved.
Rename an asset in a project group
The Assets tab shows both the original Asset Name and the Asset Name in Project.
Change the asset name within the project
To change the name used for the asset throughout the current project:
Open the Assets tab.
Click the pencil icon next to Asset Name in Project.
Enter the new name.
Save the change.
Attention!
The Asset Name in Project applies to the asset throughout the current project.
If the asset appears in multiple project groups within the project, the new name is used in all of those project groups.
Change the asset name only for the current project group
You can also give the asset a different name within a specific project group.
Open the Assets tab.
Click the Advanced Settings icon for the asset.
Change the Project Group Asset Name.
Click Save.
The Project Group Asset Name applies only within the current project group.
This allows the same asset to have a different display name in different project groups.

Setting a custom dashboard for a specific asset in a project group
By default, an asset uses the detail dashboard configured for its project group.
You can override this setting for an individual asset.
Open the Assets tab of the project group.
Click the Advanced Settings icon for the asset.
Turn off Use Default Detail Dashboard.
Select the required dashboard.
Click Save.
The selected detail dashboard is used for this asset within the current project group instead of the group's default detail dashboard.
Important
The Project Group Asset Name and custom detail dashboard are specific to the project group.
Activity periods are different: they belong to the asset within the project and therefore apply to every project group in which the asset appears.
Manage project groups from the project page
Click Projects in the navigation menu and open the project for which you want to manage the project groups.

Go to the Asset Groups tab. Here you can create and modify asset groups in the same way as through Assets.
