A useful bonus feature of our tank monitoring product, is a theft detection system. If configured, you’ll receive a notification when an unusual drop in the tank level is detected.
Enabling theft detection
The theft detection system is disabled by default. To enable it, the ThresholdTheft metadata variable needs to be set.
The metadata variables applicable to the theft detection system are:
ThresholdTheft
The minimum difference in level between two measurements, as a percentage, for the theft detection to be triggered. The default value is 0%, which disables theft detection.TheftHourStart
The start hour for theft detection, in 24 hour format. Only specify the hour, as an integral number (0-23). The default is 0 (midnight).TheftHourEnd
The end hour for theft detection, in 24 hour format. Only specify the hour, as an integral number (0-23). The default is 6 (6:00 AM).LocalTimeZone
The time zone used for the start and end hours. The default is Europe/Brussels.
You can adjust these values from the tank dashboard, using the Metadata widget, located under the Troubleshooting & configuration section.
Deactive the Use Default toggle switch for the variable you want to change, and enter the desired value.
Attention!
To avoid false positives, set ThresholdTheft to a higher value than the consumption under normal use.
By examining the Tank Level chart widget, you can asses the periodical percentage drop for that particular tank, at a time when fluid is consumed at a normal rate.
